Why a Tropical Island?
March 2026, Anthony
they didn’t have a handy term back then, but when i came up with a list of 10 Things To Accomplish Before I Die, the second checkbox on the list was
☐ Someday, own a tropical island
i cranked out this bucket-ish list between 17 and my early twenties.
that unique choice was inspired by a pretty complete misreading of the 1982 movie “Tempest”, a breakout film for Molly Ringwold, also Susan Sarandon, a very loose interpretation of Shakespeare’s play, “The Tempest”.

the island is one of many in a long cluster of mangrove & coral cayes known as the ‘Blue Ground Range’ or ‘Cockney Range’, and didn’t have a given name.
in keeping with spirit of “The Tempest”, Caliban is recognized as one of Shakespeare’s most complex characters, part villain, part fool, and also deeply native. seemed perfect for our foolish venture.

And Caliban’s sea witch mother, Sycorax, became our workhorse electric tender’s name.
